Hi, I’m Conor!

My love of science (specifically of electrochemistry) has allowed me to achieve my dreams of working with some of the best and brightest minds designing new ways to harness clean energy. However, when I was younger it was hard to imagine I would be able to work in any STEM field at all.

When I was in high school I was forced to miss an extended period of time from school due to a medical issue. When I came back to school, my Pre-AP Chemistry teacher was particularly unwilling to help me after school if I didn't understand her initial method of explanation. As I fell further and further behind I became convinced that chemistry wasn't for me, and that I would never be able to pass the class. At a certain point my grades were poor enough in the class my mother suggested that I reach out to a tutor.

This one tutor over the course of a few weeks completely changed the course of my academic career. She helped me gain the confidence that no subject matter was too difficult to master. All it took was for someone to explain the material to me in a different way then my teacher had. And my grade went from a C at midterm to an A at the end of the year.

Ever since this tutor helped change my perspective and give me confidence, I have always enjoyed the process of learning. I see my position as a tutor as a way of helping someone who may be struggling, to discover this love as well. My main focus with every student will be to figure out exactly where the disconnect is coming from and give a new approach to learning until the student feels comfortable with the subject.

Math and Science can be abstract subjects to many students. I hear a lot that some people just aren't math and science people. But I would disagree; I believe in growth mindset and that those people simply haven't found the right teacher. People would be amazed what they are capable of doing in an academic setting with a nudge in the right direction.

Subjects: AP Statistics, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Math (K-12), AP US History, AP European History

Academic Accomplishments: Graduated with 4.0 From Georgia Tech. Authored a thesis about a new material system to improve the performance of the air electrode of reversible solid oxide fuel cells. This thesis was successfully defended at Georgia Tech. Publication and patent are pending surrounding this work. Co-authored other published work surrounding fuel cell research at Georgia Tech.
